Richard’s Story
I don’t know how long I lay there, curled up on the floor freaking out.
It was 2009, and it felt like every fiber in my body was vibrating with anxiety.
On the outside I looked fine, but in reality, I had daily panic attacks and felt an overwhelming sense of hopelessness almost every day.
That moment broke something open.
I was tired of running from my feelings and I started to get courious?
“what is this that I am running from?”
I did not know that this moment of curiosity would end up changing my life forever.
What followed was a long process of coming back.
I became a kind of mad scientist, testing, practicing, learning.
Lots of yoga and breathwork, reconnecting with my nervous system, getting skilled at navigating fear, building up my personal compassion supply
I just didn’t realise just how long I’d been out of sync with my own body. Years of tension I’d called normal. Panic I’d tried to outthink. Emotion I’d numbed or ignored.
Slowly, I began to feel more like myself again.
Now, I help others do the same.
I co-authored The Binge Code and The Bulimia Help Method, two best-selling books that have helped thousands of people overcome eating struggles.
Eventually, I wrote F**k Fear—a book about what it really means to live with anxiety, and how to stop letting it run the show by changing your relationship to sensation. That book is the one I wish I’d had when I was drowning in it.
